The High School Days

The High School Days

Hey everyone, once again I hope that everyone is staying safe mentally and physically during these tough times. I like to say mentally because I feel that everyone can be so focused on their physical health (which they should be) but can forget how important mental health really is. Be sure to keep tabs on your mental health just as much as your physical health and we will be able to get through this.

Without being able to play baseball at the moment has me thinking about simpler times, high school. Baseball has been my life for as long as I can remember and the loss of the season really makes me want to go back to a time where I was able to play.

I am from Long Island where I went to Wantagh High School. We are a historically very good sports school but we are especially a very talented baseball school. When I was there we won 3 consecutive Nassau County Championships, Long Island Championships, and a New York State Championship.

There are so many moments that I wish I could talk about but to keep it short I am going to talk about the game that I started as a pitcher to win the Nassau County Championship my senior year. We won the first game of the series and now we were one win away from once again being champions. I got the ball as the starting pitcher and let me tell you I was so nervous.

Even though leading up to that I had a great year all I could think about was hopefully pitching well enough so that we could dog pile on the mound for the third straight year. The stands were packed with fans from both teams and I could not wait to hear the cheer when I stepped on the mound.

We were playing a team that we have knocked out of the playoffs the last 2 years so they were trying to get revenge. They were no match for our talent though as we know that we would beat them once again. Pitching in that game was one of the best moments in my life, it showed that I can be successful under pressure.

We ended up blowing them out and winning the game 14 to 3, once again we were champions. Winning these championships with my best friends was the best feeling in the entire world. We are all still best friends to this day and often talk about all the good times we had playing ball and winning championships together.

I hope one day to win another championship this time with Stevenson and experience that feeling again with my new group of best friends.
