Sweep The Weekend
Sweep The Weekend
The Stevenson University Baseball team was ready for a very long week. Coming into the week we knew we had a tough road ahead of us with 5 games in 5 days. All hand were on deck as we practiced hard throughout the week to get ready to go to battle.
The week started off strong as we had two great practices on Monday and Tuesday leading up to a big matchup against Immaculata University on Wednesday. The team was hyped and ready to go but unfortunately we ran into some weather issues. With the rain from Tuesday night we all woke up to a text message from our coach saying that the game has been cancelled.
Now our focus shifted to the weekend. With the game getting cancelled on Wednesday afternoon we were now able to prepare for our 4 games that we had on the weekend. We had a double header on Saturday against CCNY followed by another double header on Sunday against Elmira.
On a cold Saturday morning we started our quest for a clean sweep of the weekend. The first game started just the way that we wanted it to. After two scoreless innings we finally started the scoring. We put up 8 runs in the third inning and from there we coasted to an 8 to 2 win to start the series.
By the time the second game of the day started it was even colder than it was at the beginning of the day. We jumped out to a quick 2 to 0 lead after the first but CCNY didn't go down without a fight.
CCNY took the lead in the 5th inning and we had 6 more outs to form a comeback. Luckily, we were able to take the lead back in the bottom of the 6th inning but right after we did that they came right back to tie up and force extra innings. Finally, in the bottom of the 8th inning we were able to push across the game winning run and take two games from CCNY.
We were now onto Sunday and thankfully warmer weather. Once again we jumped out to a quick lead on Elmira and we didn't look back. The first game of the day flew by as we dominated for a dominating 14 to 6 victory.
We know how hard it is to come back for another game after a large victory like we had in the first game, so we knew we had to keep our focus and come out of the gates strong. That is exactly what we did. After scoring 6 in the 2nd inning and 8 in the 4th inning we went on to win the game 16-3.
We accomplished our goal of going undefeated on the weekend and improving our team record to 6 wins and 1 loss. We are ready to keep pushing forward into our season.

Good weekend for the Stangs! Keep it rolling
